Lori’s Go-To Flank Steak Grilling Sauce

Our recipe today comes from Miss Lori Jackson. Lori is one of Evolve’s contributors, and was this week’s guest for the Real Life, Real Passion podcast. We talked about embracing life’s detours, finding the joy, and choosing to be happy.

Apparently, anyone that knows Lori well knows that she’s not a huge fan of cooking or baking. She jokes that she can’t make bread to save her life. However, her family does have a family favorite recipe for flank steak that is frequently requested.

Favorite Family Recipe

Lori’s favorite family recipe is Flank Steak. This recipe is more of a marinade than a sauce, but is still so good.  Any time there is a special occasion: a birthday, mother’s day, father’s day – it is their go-to meal.

Their favorite way to serve the steak is with sticky rice, but it is also really good with mashed potatoes. While the meat is on the grill cooking, Lori will boil the leftover marinade and use it as a sauce/gravy for the rice or mashed potatoes.

Flank Steak Sauce/Marinade

  • 3/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 2 Tbsp dry mustard
  • 2 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 1/2 tsp parsley
  • 1 tsp garlic
  1. Combine all the ingredients in blender. Blend until creamy.

  2. Place meat in a Ziploc bag, pour in marinade, seal and refrigerate. The longer the better. 24 hours is perfect.

  3. Grill meat to desired doneness.

  4. While the meat is grilling, boil the remaining marinade to use as a sauce for rice or mashed potatoes.


This is a perfect recipe for summer grilling!
